Becky’s Lemonade, anyone?

BECKY’S LEMONADE – Inspired by Beyonce’s Lemonade

The Recipe:

– 2-3 blackberries
– Handful fresh mint
– 0.75 oz. simple syrup (1:1)
– 0.75 oz. lemon juice
– 1.5 oz. Jameson Irish Whiskey
– Soda water
– Garnish: mint sprig

Add blackberries and mint in a shaker tin and muddle. Add the whiskey, simple syrup and lemon. Shake with ice and pour everything into an Old Fashioned glass. Top with ice, and top the drink with soda water and garnish.

Tasting Notes: “The inspiration of this drink speaks for itself. A twist on a classic whiskey smash, but because we are still in winter, I decided to use blackberries to add depth. Super refreshing, but bold.”

LOVE IN THE DARK – Inspired by Adele’s 25

– 2 oz. Plymouth Gin
– 0.75 oz lemon juice
– 0.75 oz lavender syrup*
– 1 tablespoon activated charcoal
– 1 egg white
– Garnish: edible flower

Dry shake (no ice) egg white; then add all other ingredients and dry shake again. Add ice and shake a third time and double strain over a large coupe or martini glass. Garnish with edible flower.

Tasting Notes: “Activated charcoal and squid ink are both very popular in cocktails right now to achieve cocktails with a distinct black color. It seemed like there was no better option for Adele’s 25. Charest took a classic egg white sour and changed out traditional simple syrup for lavender syrup for depth and aroma and then added the charcoal. A little goes a long way charcoal-wise, so keep that in mind.”

*Recipe for lavender syrup:

– 2 cups water
– 2 cups sugar
– 2 tablespoons dried lavender blossoms

Bring ingredients to a boil in saucepan, stirring so that the sugar dissolves. Reduce heat and continue stirring until all the sugar has dissolved.

Remove from heat and let steep for 30 minutes. Remove lavender blossoms and allow syrup to cool. Store in an airtight container and keep refrigerated.

The Recipe:

– 2 oz. Lot 40 Rye Whiskey
– 2 dashes Angostura bitters
– 0.5 oz. apple spiced syrup*
– Garnish: orange peel

In an Old Fashioned glass, add the syrup, bitters and orange peel. Use a muddler to gently press the orange peel to release the citrus oils. Add the whiskey and stir. Add ice cubes and stir again.

Tasting Notes: “It has been reported that Drake loves Old Fashioneds, so this has a winter twist with inspiration from his new album. It has an apple spice syrup as a core ingredient and Irish whiskey as a base.”

*Recipe for spiced apple syrup:

– 1.5 cups sugar
– 1.5 cups apple juice
– 1/8 teaspoon apple pie spice

Bring sugar, apple juice and apple pie spice to a boil in a saucepan. Cook until sugar dissolves. Remove from heat. Once cool, store in an airtight container and keep refrigerated.

My Mama Don't Like You

– 2 oz. Absolut Vodka
– 0.5 oz. Chareau Aloe Liqueur
– 0.5 oz. lemon juice
– Tonic water
– Garnish: rosemary

In a double rocks glass, add all ingredients, add ice, top the glass with tonic and incorporate. Garnish with rosemary.

Tasting Notes: “A riff on a classic vodka tonic with an excellent aloe vera liqueur called Chareau along with lemon juice and a sprig of rosemary for a great aroma. Inspiration came from his newest album with producer Skrillex. It just seemed like a carbonated cocktail like a vodka tonic was the perfect base to work from on this one and to bring in some super earthy elements to make it unique.”
