Over the weekend, musician FKA Twigs was trending with her recent lawsuit against ex-boyfriend Shia LaBeouf; She is accusing him of “sexual battery, assault and infliction of emotional distress”. In a recent interview with The New York Times, She shares her experience in hopes of helping others and raise awareness around domestic abuse.
With the statistics around this matter increasing due to covid, it is really important that we speak up about our experiences. We need to let others know they are not alone, and there is help! Abuse regardless of whatever gender is on the receiving end is not acceptable! If an individual feels the need to dominate you with fear or physical pain, that shows how weak they are.
Understand that the abuse is never your fault, abusers tend to gaslight their victims into believing they are to blame. It is no one’s job but their own to fix themselves, and seek the help they so clearly need in order to accept and give true love.
On the flip side of things, it is also our responsibility to stand in our power and rid of the victim mentality the abuser has imposed on us. You are not a victim, and you are not alone. You will get through this and come out stronger than before.
