If you are counting on a tax refund this year you might have to wait awhile.
The government shutdown may lead to a delay in IRS refund processing. The IRS is one of the many agencies that has been affected by the shutdown which began back on December 22nd. The IRS isn’t totally closed but currently, only about 12% of their staff is working. Despite the shutdown, the deadlines for filing and paying taxes will remain the same however due to the lack of staffing the process of issuing refunds, which is considered a “non-excepted activity” (meaning it is non-essential to day to day operations), may be delayed. Basically, its gonna be a while before we see ANY type of refund.
