Twin Lakes Trail is a 2.3 mile heavily trafficked out and back trail located at the top of Big Cottonwood Canyon at Silver Lake. The hike is rated as moderate with an elevation gain of 750 feet.
The trailhead starts at the Silver Lake Visitor Center at the base of Brighton Ski Resort. You’ll start by following the boardwalk to the right. Once you reach the junction, the trail starts to climb and offers great views of Silver Lake from above. Be sure you have sturdy shoes as the trail can be rocky and uneven in sections. Don’t hike in sandals (see video below).
The hike is called Twin Lakes because originally, two lakes were here before the dam was built, but water levels need to be extremely low to see two individual lakes again. The scenic area offers breathtaking views, wildflowers and plenty of wildlife viewing.
