Leagues Cup is a new, annual competition between clubs from Major League Soccer (MLS) and Liga MX. Sanctioned by the Confederation of North, Central America and Caribbean Association Football (Concacaf), the tournament will debut in July 2019 and culminate with a final in September.

The inaugural edition of Leagues Cup features four clubs from each league in an eight-team single-elimination tournament. The participating clubs in 2019 are the Chicago Fire, Houston Dynamo, LA Galaxy, and Real Salt Lake from MLS, and Club America, Cruz Azul, Tigres UANL, and Club Tijuana from Liga MX. All eight clubs have won domestic titles, and combined they have won 37 total titles.

“Facing Mexican teams will make MLS grow a lot. It will show the level of where this league is. . . . It’s going to be very intense. . . . I’m very excited to be able to play against Mexican clubs.”
— Jonathan Dos Santos, LA Galaxy
“We know that they’re the two strongest leagues in the region, so it’s extremely important to compete against them.”
— Pablo Aguilar, Cruz Azul

2019 Leagues Cup play begins with quarterfinal matches on July 23 and 24 at the stadiums of the MLS clubs. The semifinals are August 20 at venues to be determined based on quarterfinal results. The final is on Wednesday, September 18, at a U.S. venue to be announced. Full schedule can be found here.

While the first tournament features four clubs from each league invited to participate, future editions of Leagues Cup could be expanded and participating clubs determined by sporting criteria.
