New Spotify Patent Involves Monitoring Users’ Speech to Recommend Music

ARE YOU STILL LISTENING. . .

Spotify Wants To Make Song Recommendations Based On Users’ Speech, Emotions Do you enjoy listening to Spotify?  Now the streaming platform wants to listen to you – literally. The company has applied for a patent for technology that would monitor users’ speech for “emotional state, gender, age, or accent” – and make song recommendations based on what it hears. The technology could even listen for background noise to determine the environment the listener is in – like in the car or at a party. It’s not clear when Spotify plans to roll out this technology – or if it even exists at this point.  The company says it files patents for “hundreds of inventions”, many of which never see the light of day. How would you feel about Spotify ‘listening’ to your speech to detect your mood?

Do you use any other speech-recognition apps like Alexa?
