Nikki Rae’s 3 Way: 3 Ways To Keep Your Skin Blemish Free This Winter

“Skincare products aren’t a “one size fits all” kind of thing…”

No matter where you live, winter can take a toll on your skin. Dry, itchy, patchy skin with uneven tones and blemishes are the stuff nightmares are made of! If you are suffering from a winter breakout, here are 3 tips to help get through the next month and a half of winter.

Keep It Clean

Washing your face is one of the most underrated things you can do to help prevent blemishes and breakouts. Get into the habit of washing your face every morning when you wake up, and at night before you go to bed. If you wear makeup, that’s even more of a reason to make sure your skin stays clean. My favorite facial cleanser is Cetaphil. Is non-drying, and non-comedogenic. Plus, it gets rid of my makeup residue better than any other facial cleanser I’ve used. It’s important to use the right facial cleansers/moisturizers for your skin type. Talk to your dermatologist first to find out what skincare regimen is best for you.

Scrub It Away

Exfoliating your skin is one of the best ways to help keep your blemishes at bay. Removing dead skin cells and dry skin will help so much in preventing pimples. Be careful of the products you use though. Abrasive facial exfoliators like St. Ives apricot scrub, aren’t good for your skin, be careful. They can be really harsh on your facial skin and even cause abrasions that can lead to infection. Plus, some can be drying, and if you’re already prone to dry skin, exfoliators like that are not the way to go. My best advice is to invest in a facial cleansing motorized brush. Clarisonic has the best one I’ve ever tried, but they can be pricey. You can find cheaper versions online that will give you the same results! Remember though, you should only exfoliating your face every 2-3 days.

Moisturize it up

This step can make or break your clear skin! Keeping your skin sufficiently moisturized is important, but even more important is the products you use. Skin care products aren’t a “one size fits all” kind of thing. We all have different skin types, and that’s why it’s important to use products that will help you, not cause more pimples. Always make sure you read the ingredients on the products you are putting on your face. Following the latest beauty skin routine may do more harm than good for you. If you’re prone to acne and breakouts, you’re not going to use an oil-based moisturizer or makeup product. Same goes for those with dry skin, you’re not going to lather break-out Salicylic acid medication all over your skin. It’s important to know your skin type. Once you’ve figured that out, research the best skin care products for your skin type. If you feel like you need expert advice, contact your dermatologist, they will be able to steer you in the right direction.
