#TBT Origins Of West Coast Hip Hop – Story Of Uncle Jamms Army

It’s no secret that New York is the home of Hip Hop. The origins date back to the early 70’s in the South Bronx by Kool Herc.

Many would argue that Hip Hop may have “started in the West” as quoted by Ice Cube on the song ‘Westside Slaughterhouse‘. This would reference to the Original Lockers dance group and their style of dance dubbed “Locking” which is consider as the first original street dance.

Uncle Jamms Army was a party promotions group that were legends in Los Angeles back in the 70’s. The group sparked the first superstars in Hip Hop on the West Coast. These stars included one of the founders, the late Roger Clayton and one of my all time favorite artists as a kid, The Egyptian Lover!

The first all 24-7 Hip Hop station in the nation, KDAY in LA recruited some of the Uncle Jamms Army’s biggest DJ’s to rock their mixshows. Even one of the most crucial members of N.W.A., Arabian Prince was apart of the legendary crew!

Learn a history about the one and only UNCLE JAMMS ARMY!
