The 5 Most Iconic Super Bowl Performances Of All Time

So the rumors are true, and Justin Timberlake officially confirmed his Super Bowl LII’s halftime performance alongside Jimmy Fallon last night.

(If you missed that, click here.) After his iconic 2001 appearance with NSYNC and 2004’s wardrobe fiasco with Janet Jackson, it raises the question of what this year has in store for us. Here’s a look back at some of the most iconic halftime performances while we wait.

Michael Jackson (1993)

Before 1993, halftime at the Super Bowl was a considered a good time to use the bathroom or grab a hot dog. An Elvis Presley impersonator, local marching bands, and Disneyland characters were some of the acts to “grace” the stage before Michael Jackson changed the standard forever.

Aerosmith, Britney Spears, NSYNC, Mary J. Blige, and Nelly (2001)

5 of the world’s most powerful entertainers came together to create pure magic on the 2001 Super Bowl halftime show stage. Justin even shot glittery fire out of his fingertips during this performance, and I don’t think it gets much better than that.

Beyonce, Kelly Rowland, and Michelle Williams (2013)

Yonce performed some of her biggest hits including “Halo”, “Single Ladies”, and “Crazy In Love”, and then graciously invited the rest of Destiny’s Child on stage to perform “Bootylicious” and “Independent Women” before shooing them off stage.

Janet Jackson, Justin Timberlake, P. Diddy, Jessica Simpson, and Nelly (2004)

Just fast forward to “the part”. No shame. It’s at 4:04.

Prince (2007)

Prince delivered this iconic, soulful performance during a huge rain and windstorm in Miami, and many have deemed it the greatest Super Bowl halftime performance of all time.
