The first time the world was introduced to “Scratching”

I gotta tell you, Hip Hop has come a long way! Before rappers became the superstars in this industry, the original position in the forefront was the DJ. Hip Hop would of never been such a music powerhouse, worth billion of dollars if it wasn’t for the DJ. He or she controlled the music which made your body move, rappers rhyme and the party unforgettable! If you’re an avid fan of Hip Hop or if you contribute to this musical art form in some sort of form or fashion… Never forget that it was the DJ that began the culture.
I have been a DJ for over 20 years and I still remember what made me want to move a record back and forth as a kid. It was this guy named Grand Mixer D.ST. The song that showcased the turntable as a musical instrument was called “Rock It” by Herbie Hancock. Herbie Hancock who at the time was a very popular Jazz musician, believed that the DJ would be an integral part of the song he wrote. Even though scratching was invented 7-8 years earlier, this is what made people open their eyes to the art form known as scratching. Without further adieu, I present the first time the world witnessed this musical sound and how it was done! From the 1983 Grammy Awards… Herbie Hancock, and the main feature of the show… GRAND MIXER D.ST!
