Talk about a poop eating grin…

The percentage of fecal matter on your toothbrush is a lot higher than you’d think. A recent study taken by Quinnipiac University has found that there is over an 80% chance of poop being on your toothbrush.

That’s 80% again for those of you who didn’t get the message the first time.

You can take steps to minimize feces being on your toothbrush, like throwing it out and never brushing your teeth again, which is probably going to be worse for you in the long run. If you have a roommate/share a bathroom with anyone, the poop matter can spread through the air by simply flushing the toilet. Washing your toothbrush under hot water or rinsing with mouthwash won’t do anything at all, either. “Using a toothbrush…creates an environment where bacteria are better suited to grow by keeping the bristles moist and not allowing the head of a toothbrush to dry out” says Lauren Aber, a student involved with the study.

Remember these cool facts the next time you go to kiss your hot date.
