When I got the email from my homies at Strange Music Inc to come visit Tech’s headquarters in Kansas City, I jumped on a plane for a quick trip to see what’s been cooking at Strangeland. Knowing how much Utah loves and supports Tech N9ne’s career since day one, I had to show the fans where they’ve come from and how far they’ve come as a crew, label and family.
Myself (and more radio fam where TechN9ne’s biggest fan bases grow) were picked up from the airport in Strange Music logo’d Sprinters and Shuttles and brought to the hotel. But first, lemme take a..
After an undisclosed amount of alcohol may have been consumed, we hopped back on the shuttles and were brought to building 1 of 3..
Roaming the halls you’ll find artwork dating back as far as 1999 when Strange Music Inc. was founded. Super dope to see and feel how important the beginning is to everyone still today!
So before music became my career, I’ve worked in my share of warehouse settings. They proudly showed off that beyond the offices and conference rooms in building 1, was the cleanest and most organized warehouse I’d ever seen. Packed and organized with merch that ships to fans worldwide.
I noticed Bay Area OG E40 has merch made here!
More evidence of keeping heritage alive..
We moved on to building 2 (across the street) and when entering the lobby, you can’t help but notice..
Wandered down the hall, noticed an office with a “T” on it. Must be a big deal around here.. 🙂
Tech N9ne’s office beverage essentials be like.. (I’ve gotta step my game up)
White girls go crazy, black girls go crazy.. for leather chairs! Mission control.
Upstairs Tech proudly showed us his incredible studios, I grabbed a shot of “Studio A” (Cameo by DJ Eman!)
Dedicated drum room in “Studio B” (I’m going upstairs to put my ___ on your drum set! – Brennan Voice)
The attention to detail in every room was impressive..
Every rehearsal area needs The Predator.
I can relate to having candy bowls on the ready in every room #NOMSAYIN
At this point the sun had set, and we took a quick shortcut to building 3 where a full sized venue was waiting for us to hear some new Strange Music projects LIVE! But first, we had to take a snap break with my LA/Tuscon homies Alisa and Dwayne 🙂
Kickin’ off the showcase was recently-signed DARREIN SAFRON, a smooth voiced St. Louis native. Super down to earth dude, one of my favorite performances of the night.
Another favorite was fast-paced, lyrically charged RITZ! He told me SLC will always be a dope memory as last time he came Waka Flocka had a show the same night, and RITZ sold out his show. Wake allegedly didn’t..
Strange Music co-founder and business partner Travis O’Guin’s daughter MACKENZIE NICOLE showed off some new music, and Tech even showed support with a verse.
Then long-time day one Strange Music artist KRIZZ KALIKO blew us away with a soulful, vocal set with a full band and singers to match his (surprising!) lead vocals. So dope to see him come in to his own with a new sound!
Tech N9ne came out and thanked all the radio peeps for supporting “Hood Go Crazy” with a LIVE rendition!
S/O to Tech N9ne, Travis O’Guin and the Strange Music Inc. am for giving me a glimpse of how far they’ve come as a label and crew. Also for stuffing us full of his favorite KC BBQ! I’ve been to many music showcases, and the level of thought they’ve put in to everything they do is nothing short of amazing. Look forward to seeing (and hearing) what they’ve got in store for everyone in 2016!
