In the 50 years of its existence Essence magazine has never had a gay man on the cover, until now.
Actor, activist, and fashion expert Billy Porter will don the cover of the July-August issue of the iconic magazine.
In the cover story, Porter is referred to as a “national treasure” for his activism for LGBTQ+ rights in the U.S.
The story will also tell of Porter’s struggles throughout his career and how at age 50 he’s still not done yet.
