After the release of “Bodak Yellow”, Cardi B’s rap career seemed to skyrocket overnight, and some are accusing her of buying her sudden success.
But the clapback queen isn’t shy about these types of things, and took time to defend herself on Instagram.
In a response to a hater on IG, Cardi reminded everybody that her first single “Lick” didn’t do well, and she had to go back to the drawing board. She was told by her label, Atlantic Records, “if the song not it, it ain’t it”. She then released “Bodak Yellow” which became a hit, but not because of label money, she says.
“I’m thankful for “Bodak Yellow” ’cause it had people and even the label believe in me. YOU CAN’T BUY THE GENERAL PUBLIC NO MACHINE NO MONEY CAN’T BUY THAT!”
