DC Mayor paints her defiance on the street

In a rebuke to President Donald Trump’s decision to bring in troops in response to protests and clear protesters for a photo op at a church, Washington D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser renamed a section of 16th street leading up to the White House as “Black Lives Matter Plaza.”
It includes a giant mural painted on over two blocks of the street surface in bright yellow reading “Black Lives Matter.”
“As Washingtonians, we simply all want to be here together in peace to demonstrate that in America, you can peacefully assemble, you can bring grievances to your government, and you can demand change.”
Not everyone is on board with the Mayor’s move, BBC reports. The local Black Lives Matter chapter called “a performative distraction from real police changes,” and was done “to appease white liberals while ignoring our demands.”
