Jay Z Addressed His Relationship With Kanye West on “Everything Is Love”

Little brother…

Kanye West recorded the song “Big Brother” on Graduation to show his love and respect for his friend Jay-Z. The relationship between the two seemed to be unbreakable up until Kanye decided to blast Jay on stage during a concert.

Now that we’ve had a few days (less time if you don’t have TIDAL) to listen Jay Z and Beyoncé’s surprise album EVERYTHING IS LOVE, let’s address a lingering question on many fans’ minds: did Hov have bars for Yeezy?

When you take a look at the lyrics on the track “Friends,” it certainly seems like he did. Jay alludes to the fallout with Kanye, and why he was a no-show at his 2014 wedding.

The lyrics below are a subliminal jab at JAY-Z’s “little brother.”

“I ain’t goin’ to nobody nothin’ when me and my wife beefin’
I don’t care if the house on fire, I’m dyin’, nigga, I ain’t leavin’
Ty-Ty take care of my kids, after he done grievin’
If y’all don’t understand that, we ain’t meant to be friends.”

Jay Z and Beyoncé did not attend the wedding of Kanye and Kim Kardashian in Italy in May 2014, because the two were going through marital issues (“beefing”) at the time. The decision Jay made to prioritize his strained relationship with his wife over attending the wedding is what hurt Kanye deeply. In May, Kanye opened up to Charlamagne tha God about his feelings from that decision.

“Respectfully, I got to say I was hurt about them not coming to the wedding. I understand they was going through some things, but, if it’s family, you’re not gonna miss a wedding.”

Knowing how both Jay and Kanye are, this is something I can see them working out and becoming friends again. What are your thoughts?
