Jem and the Holograms Flops, Removed From Theaters

Old motion picture film reel

“Jem and the Holograms” was not a good movie for 2015.  In fact, the ratings were so low for two consecutive weeks, that the film was pulled from theaters.

“Theater chains are contractually obligated to hold a film for two weeks after booking it. However, in all my days as an analyst, I’ve never seen a studio actually stop reporting after two weeks,” Jeff Bock, senior box-office analyst at Exhibitor Relations, told Business Insider Monday.

The movie had a 20% rating from Rotten Tomatoes, and came in at 15th place for it’s opening week.  It only brought in about $1.37 for the week, and the following week – $387,925. (That is about 160.00 per screen, not so good).

“This is unprecedented, and shows just how badly this film flopped. Not only is it the lowest-grossing debut for a studio film this year, but it’s the worst all-time — by a considerable margin — for any film released in 2,000-plus theaters,” said Bock.

And so, it’s probably safe to say there will not be a sequel to this one.
