Sin City tourists can now safely dispose of their legally-purchased marijuana before boarding flights.
A total of 13 green disposal bins have been securely bolted to the ground in high-traffic areas of the airport. The Department of Aviation pushed to have these boxes installed after Clark County imposed a ban on marijuana possession at the McCarren airport in September.
Airport spokeswoman Christine Crews told The Associated Press, “The amnesty boxes are offered as a way to help people comply with this ordinance.”
She added that the drop bins are highly secured, saying that, “The drawer pulls out; you drop your stuff in and you close it. You can’t really get your hand in there. If you start tampering with them, you’d be detected pretty quickly.”
A private contractor has been hired to collect and dispose of the bins’ contents multiple times per week.
