“Whack in spirit…”
New Jersey rapper/producer/writer/engineer/etc…, Russ, has managed to create quite a lane for himself, as his debut album There’s Really A Wolf, recently went platinum. Russ is talented in his musical abilities and his ability to rub people the wrong way, and when an old (January 2017) Vlad TV interview popped up producers were rubbed the wrong way.
In the interview below, Russ is critical of the current health of rap and stressed his belief that rappers were not to blame for what he perceived to be the issues facing the scene.
After seeing the interview for the first time, Metro Boomin came to the defense of his fellow producers and posted the following tweets.

and by whack I mean whack in spirit.. haven’t heard any music to come to that conclusion.

Producer Southside was not feeling Russ’ recent comments about producers alleged role in the decline of hip hop’s quality. Before he went in on the rapper, he let it known that he did think his music was dope. However, he let it be known that Russ doesn’t have any authority to make comments like that.
Zaytoven seems to have taken a different approach to his criticism of Russ. He’s choosing to challenge his statements, by releasing an album so dope that Russ will have no choice but to admit that it’s flames.
Aye tell this guy RUSS ….. #TrapHolizay is about to be his FAVORITE ALBUM ! 🏆

Other producers also shared their thoughts on Twitter,
Lol Russ is a joke. What he said might actually be offensive if he didn’t make rap for people who are scared of rap 😂

I’m not a hater towards @russdiemon music or his success im impressed in some ways… But the corny fact about him always voicing his weak ass opinion, he has a negative corny “know it all, I’m perfect but everyone else sucks and Hiphop is ruined” head ass, just shut the fuck up

Don’t EVER downplay us music producers … EVER

Since they were Russ’ original comments it’s only right that he gets the last say.
Lemme address this 2016 interview since y’all gettin emotional…I was referring to the monotony in production…95% of the beats in rap sound the same and 95% of rappers do the same shit over them as every other rapper…If that doesn’t apply to you then I wasn’t talkin bout u
