Salt Lake City Woman to Compete on “Survivor: Ghost Island”

Outwit. Outlast. Outplay.

That is the theme to the game of Survivor since it’s debut season 18 years ago in 2000.

Tomorrow night (Feb. 28th) CBS will debut “Survivor: Ghost Island” and give 20 contestants a shot at one million dollars.

25-year-old Chelsea Townsend will represent Salt Lake City, Utah in Survivor’s 36th season. Townsend, who currently, resides in Los Angeles, California enjoy’s hiking and camping, so maybe that will give her an advantage over the next 39 days.

Townsends tells The Hollywood Reporter, “I am so excited. That’s an understatement. I don’t even know how to put it. I’m more than excited. I’ve been watching the game, the show, for so long.”

If you’re unfamiliar with the reality TV show, Survivor places 20 people on an island over the course of 39 days. Contestants get voted out every three days and the goal is to outwit each other through the challenges of social interaction and physical challenges. Become the “Sole Survivor” and receive the grand prize of one million dollars.

This season of Survivor is designed to constantly recall experiences from past seasons. According to The Hollywood Reporter, host Jeff Probst said,

“‘Ghost Island’ has been a name we’ve wanted to use for a long time. Once we came up with the idea of ‘bad decisions coming back to haunt you,’ we knew we had it.”

Probst is referring to the use of infamous props contestants have created, or not even used from past seasons. This season gives new players like Townsend a chance to avoid mistakes from those who have already played.

“Survivor: Ghost Island” premieres Wednesday, Feb. 28, at 7 p.m. MST on CBS.
