Soundset 2015, what a great experience. It was my 1st time attending this festival, and with the stellar line up of acts, not even the rain could stop the energy! Here’s how my day went….
After arriving at MSP & a short 30 min drive + a stop at White Castle, I arrived in to Shakopee, MN @ Canterbury Park, the site of Soundest 2015. With nonstop rain all day, I wasn’t sure how the turnout/show was going to be. But after arriving at the park, my question was answered very quickly. All 40,000 people showed up in full force!!
I got to the park around 2pm, Flatbush Zombies & The Underachievers were just finishing up their set. After walking around, checking all the sights, sounds, tents, merch etc., I made my way to the Main Stage, where Dilated Peoples were just getting started…
As the day went on, so did the acts, in the rain…. some of my favorite performances: Logic, Big Sean, Atmosphere, Ice Cube & J.Cole.
The B-Boy tent where DJ Jazzy Jay, DJ Eclipse, DJ Babu & others played was rocking all day!
The Guest Instagrammer was Van Styles, Currently one of the most sought after photographers in the world, it was really dope seeing him brave the elements & provide some really amazing shots of the festival.
The Host with the Most… Sway
Although the Main Stage acts did their thing… The Highlight of the Festival (for me) was The Fifth Element Tent, which featured an array of talent from Legendary MC’s Smif & Wesson, Hometown Hero Brother Ali & Hip Hops next: Vince Staples, Vic Mensa & Freddie Gibbs w/ Madlib! I don’t think any of the main stage acts did an encore, Freddie Gibbs did 2! The energy in the tent was electric, to say the least! The toughest part about the festival was choosing which acts to watch & when, but the Soundset app kept me in line, with alerts 15 mins before each act so I didn’t miss any of the action.
All in all, the festival was a success, there was plenty of anything & everything for everybody – from music to food & everything in between.
If you have never attended this festival & you are a die hard hip hop fan, I would really suggest making plans to attend. It’s worth every penny, even if you have to travel (from Utah) or beyond. Trust me, its worth getting your shoes wrecked.
Thank you: Jessica @ Co-Sign & The entire Rhymesayers Ent. Staff for having me, it truly was an amazing event!
