The Grammys are changing with the times.
The “Best Urban Contemporary Album” category will be renamed to “Best Progressive R and B Album.”
According to the Recording Academy, the category will “highlight albums that include the more progressive elements of R and B and may include samples and elements of hip-hop, rap, dance, and electronic music.”
The change in terminology may be directly linked to recent Black Lives Matter protests that have sparked a renewed consciousness in the music industry on how genres are named.
