Utah Parents Say No To Facebooks New KIDS App

In a day and age where we interact with people more through our phones than we do in person, Facebook has come up with yet another way to stay “connected”, only this time, its geared towards your kids!

In December of 2017 Facebook announced their new “Kids Messaging App” aimed at children 13 and under. The goal is to help kids stay connected with close friends and family through Facebook, under parental supervision. Facebook has added a new feature to the Facebook accounts where the parent can allow their kids the option to “connect with people they love but also has the level of control parents want.” It doesn’t give kids separate Facebook or Messenger accounts. Instead, the app works as an extension of a parent’s account, and parents get controls such as the ability to decide who their kids can chat with.

Child experts have spoken out about their disapproval saying “Messenger Kids is not responding to a need – it is creating one. It appeals primarily to children who otherwise would not have their own social media accounts.”

What are your thoughts? Would you allow your kids the option to use “Messenger Kids”? Let us know now @U92SLC
