WATCH: Rachel Dolezal Finally Opens Up About Pretending To Be Black

For the past few days former Washington NAACP leader, Rachel Dolezal, has found herself in the national limelight after her ethnicity came in to question.

Dolezal has been posing as an African-American woman for the past 8 years. In an interview with Matt Lauer, Rachel answered that she identifies as black and has for some time now. She continues to explain that since she was a young girl she has self identified as black – often drawing her self-portraits with a brown crayon instead of a peach one.

Dolezal’s biological parents are who first opened up about her secret.

Larry and Ruthanne Dolezal respect the work that Rachel has done with the NAACP but would prefer to see her do it truthfully.

“I think there’s demonstration of being irrational and very disconnected from reality,” her mother told a CNN interviewer. Her father agrees that she needs to face the reality of her identity.

“Many of the things she’s done are not rational and a normal sane person wouldn’t take the approach she’s taken,” he said.

After stepping down from her position with the NAACP Rachel Dolezal finally sat down on the Today’s Show with Matt Lauer to talk about her experience and how she plans to move forward.
