The World Health Organization says the new omicron variant has a “very high” risk of spreading globally
And it apparently could have potentially “severe” consequences. Officials say “unprecedented” mutations could mean the virus spreads more easily and possibly escapes immunity – though we still don’t know the extent of what the variant is capable of. The variant was first detected in South Africa but may have already spread to more than a dozen countries.
