Companies in Australia may soon have to reveal how much they pay women compared to men if the Labor party there gets their way.
Tanya Plibersek, the party’s deputy leader and spokesperson for women made the announcement Sunday. “We believe that by asking large companies to report on the differences between men and women’s pay in their company, they’ll focus even more on reducing that gender pay gap in their business,” Tanya said.
Australia’s Prime Minister, Scott Morrison, told reporters he will take a “closer look” at the proposal. This could help close the gap difference in gender salary, and make “equal pay” an actual thing. Also, it will bring light to the fact that men do in fact on average make more than women with the same education and experience.
Lets just hope this passes and it makes its way to the US.
How do you feel about this proposal? Do you feel like there’s a gender gap at the place you work? What are your theories to end the gender pay gap?
