The other day I went for a walk, and suddenly caught a delicious whiff of steak and barbecue sauce.
Instantly I was transported to a land of grilling and patios and bonfires under the stars.
If you’re as excited as I am for warmer weather, you probably realize it’s time to start planning some fun adventures with your family.
Here are 13 ideas to help you have a fun and memorable Spring:
1. Explore the Wasatch Front on a mountain bike
There are plenty of mountain biking trails across northern Utah just waiting for you to explore. In fact, the best way to explore them is with two wheels, and the breeze on your face as you feast your eyes on the breathtaking scenery.
2. Enjoy dinner and drinks on a patio
Yes, we’ve been cooped up indoors all winter, and the fresh air would do us good.
There are plenty of local dining options that feature patios for your apres-work drinks, dinners and desserts.
3. Start planning your yard makeover
I’m pretty excited to brink truckloads of shrubs, flowers and dirt home from the garden center. There something therapeutic about digging in the dirt and creating a new look for the yard, and then watching those plant grow throughout the years.
4. Spend the day at the reservoir
Whether you’d rather spend your time behind a boat carving up the water, or on the shores fishing, there’s always something fun to do at the local reservoir. Strawberry, Jordanelle and Deer Creek are a short drive away if you live in Northern Utah.
5. Road trip!
Sure, you know Delicate Arch is on the Utah license plate, but have you seen it in person? How about experiencing the crystal-clear water at Bear Lake firsthand?
6. Go for a hike
No “Utah bucket list” would be complete without a mention of the hiking options. From Weber County to Southern Utah, there are plenty of choices.
7. Improve your bowling game
If you’re looking for an inexpensive and fun Friday night activity, nothing beats a few games of bowling.
8. Learn how to sail
Huh? Sailing in Utah? Yes, you read that right. Check out Bonneville School of Sailing’s basic course, where you can learn boat handling skills and gain confidence in the open water as you try your hand at something new.
9. Plan a fun Spring Break for your kids
If the kids are going to be out of school for Spring Break, sign them up for a fun time at Camp Cranium at The Leonardo.
10. Fly through the air on a zip-line
Zip-lining is the ultimate way to welcome Spring. Whether it’s Utah Olympic Park, Snowbird or the Kanab Zip Line, you’re sure to have a great time.
11. Go swimming
Swimming is essentially a Spring rite of passage, and there are plenty of places to practice your backstroke along the Wasatch Front.
12. Play nine (or 18) holes
Whether you prefer the tree-lined fairways of Northern Utah, or the desert landscapes of Southern Utah, the Beehive State has some great golfing destinations.
13. Have a picnic in the park
What could be better than welcoming the warm weather with a sandwich under the shade of a tree? Many of Utah’s local parks have other ways to enjoy the day, like fire pits, playgrounds and walking trails to explore the scenery.
