It turned out to be a great Monday morning for Queen Latifah as she was awarded an honorary doctorate in fine arts at the Rutgers University – Newark.
During her commencement address, Latifah said, “I’m always asked by people what should I call you? Queen? Latifah? Dana? After today, you can just call me doctor.”
Besides becoming one of the elite women in rap history with songs like “Ladies First, “U.N.I.T.Y.” and “Had It Up 2 Here”, Latifah will now be known as a woman with an honorary doctorate in her hometown of Newark, New Jersey.
Latifah told students, “Graduates, home shapes you, make sure you shape it back. Take a chance on that next kid who comes along the way, the way someone took a chance on you, the way someone took a chance on me.”
