JAY-Z celebrates another prestigious victory.
His Blueprint album will be preserved in the Library of Congress recording registry. If you’re unfamiliar with what that is, it’s a registry of selected pieces of art that bear cultural significance for future generations. A board selects a few works to be included in the registry each year and this year Jay-Z’s sixth album will be included.
Blueprint, which came out on the same day as the World Trade Center attacks, September 11, 2001, and was not only a day where the country would change forever, so would Jay, from a street-influenced rapper to a major cultural icon.
Other arts being included in the Library of Congress are Curtis Mayfield’s Superfly soundtrack album, Nina Simone’s “Mississippi Goddamn,” Earth, Wind & Fire’s “September,” Cab Calloway’s “Minnie The Moocher”, Neil Diamond’s “Sweet Caroline,” Sam & Dave’s “Soul Man,” and Richie Valens’ “La Bamba.”
