This just goes to show you, be careful what you post on social media! Snapchat learned that the hard way after losing over $800 million bucks in stock value when Rihanna responded to an offensive ad.
A couple days ago, Snapchat had an insensitive third-party ad running on their app that poked fun at the Rihanna/Chris Brown domestic violence incident (pictured below). That was enough to generate a massive response from Rihanna herself, posting her thoughts and feelings on her social media platforms to her over 60 million followers. Because of that, the Rihanna Navy stayed true to their captain and deleted the app, causing the company hundreds of millions of dollars in revenue.
Is it just me, or is this ad that popped up on my Snapchat extremely tone deaf? Like what were they thinking with this? pic.twitter.com/7kP9RHcgNG

Snapchat has since issued an apology, but Rihanna, her fans, and women all over the world aren’t buying it. Snapchat claims that the opinions and views of third-party partners do not directly reflect the thoughts and feelings of Snapchat themselves. Stating “We are investigating how that happened so that we can make sure it never happens again” Heres the problem with their apology – they have to approve all third-party ads before they are scheduled to run. Which means they were fully aware of the nature of the ad and approved it anyway!
Check out Rihanna’s reaction below!
