WATCH: Snoop Dogg’s Inspiring Trailer For “Coach Snoop”

Netflix and chill?

Chances are if you’re a fan of Snoop Dogg you know he’s really big into football. If you weren’t aware of that, this quote from the D-O-Double G himself in a Billboard article back in 2016 will give you a good idea of how much it means to him.

“I would give up rapping all day to be a football coach.”

He backs his word up as well. Snoop has his very own football league. It’s called the Snoop Youth Football League (SYFL) and according to the official website, the league has been going strong since the fall of 2005 and is a “non-profit organization founded to provide the opportunity for inner-city children to participate in youth football and cheer.”

What makes this league so special then?

The goal, of the SYFL, is to provide youth, regardless of race, color, creed, or economic background the chance to learn the values of character, integrity, discipline, and teamwork through football and cheer; to bring all other communities together through a common interest in sports; to promote fair play and fellowship; to teach the game elements promoting safety, enjoyment, and healthy competition.

In this upcoming series on Netflix which premieres February 2nd, Snoop Dogg tries to lead his youth football team to gridiron glory. The series will consist of eight episodes on how the SYFL provides a rigorous, yet supportive environment for young kids in South Central Los Angeles. Snoop and a team of coaches help guide groups of young teenagers through the adversities of life on and off the field.

“Music gave me the power to create a football league, but football is taking me to places music could have never taken me to.”

Several NFL players, including Pittsburgh Steelers Juju Smith-Schuster, Kansas City Chiefs De’Anthony Thomas, and Cincinnati Bengals John Ross have grown up playing in the league.

“One thing about life: you’re gonna lose more than you win. But are you gonna get up?”

If you’re like me and can’t wait to watch this series when it comes out on February 2nd, here is something to hold you over: Snoop & Son: A Dad’s Dream. This was an ESPN series that I loved a few years ago. It follows the journey of Snoop’s son through high school and ends when he decides what college to go to. Will he opt to play at his dad’s favorite school USC?
