Woman Crush Wednesday: Remy Ma aka ‘The REAL Queen of New York’
Hey guys! Intern Esther here to announce this week’s female artist to follow and highlight of the week, Remy Ma, aka in my personal opinion, ‘The REAL Queen of New York’. She is back to reclaim her throne with a new collab album with Fat Joe called ‘Plata O Plomo’. For those of you who don’t know the legacy of Remy Ma, she is a Bronx-bred rapper who got her start in 2000 with her then mentor, Big Pun. After Big Pun’s death she signed with Fat Joe and was on the rise. Remy made her debut album There’s Something About Me in 2006 with hits like “Whatever” and my personal favorite, “Conceited”. (Watch the video below, just do it!) Remy’s career came to a halt when she was sentenced to prison for 8 years in 2008 for an altercation with an old friend that resulted in the friend accidentally being shot in the stomach. Remy was released after 6 years in 2014 -praise the Lordt- and has since been working on her comeback with Fat Joe with hits like “All The Way Up” feat. French Montana, as well as having a role on Love and Hip Hop New York. The hit single was nominated for a Grammy for best Rap performance and Rap song of the year. They didn’t walk away with any Grammys but she was looking beautiful on the red carpet! Remy Ma is definitely one of my favorite female rappers and definitely one to follow as she makes her come back! Check her out.
Remy Ma and Fat Joe’s album ‘Plata O Plomo’ is scheduled to drop this Friday, February 17.
