Here we go again — Starbucks is facing more racism allegations, and this time, with physical proof.
On Tuesday morning, a customer named Pedro entered a Starbucks in California and ordered 2 drinks. While they called his name aloud correctly, the word “Beaner” (a racial slur used to insult Mexicans or Hispanics) was printed on both cups.
When Pedro, a local chef, arrived at work, he proceeded to show his coworkers what was written on the cup. One of Pedro’s coworkers took a photo of the cup and posted it to Twitter saying, “We called & complained & their excuse was they couldn’t understand him”.

Pedro told Telemundo 52 that the store offered him a $50 gift card which he did not accept. “I didn’t take it because it’s like an insult above all.”
Starbucks has issued a statement saying, ‘This is not indicative of the type of experience we want our customers to have when they walk into our stores. We have apologized to the customer directly and are working to make things right.’
The incident came just 2 weeks after Starbucks’s “racial bias training”, during which the chain shut down 8,000 stores nationwide in light of other racist allegations. Clearly, the training didn’t hit the mark.
