On Sunday night, the Miss Peru pageant contestants took a brave stand against a prevalent issue in their country: violence against women. When the contestants introduce themselves, they’re expected to share their name and body measurements. However, instead of reciting measurements, each woman shared a statistic regarding female victims of violence in Peru.
The women received resounding praise from around the world for using their platform to shed light on a troubling global issue.
