For the first time in city history, Ella Jones has become the first African-American and first female mayor Tuesday night. The vote comes nearly six years after protests erupted across the country over the death of black, unarmed teen Michael Brown after he was shot by a white cop.
KMOV says the returns from the county’s board of elections show that Jones took 54% of the vote. Jones has worked as a chemist and church pastor and had been on Ferguson city council since 2015.
Ferguson voters have elected Ella Jones as the city's first black mayor as protests over the death of George Floyd and police treatment of black communities roil the nation. https://t.co/QvciJwqHWZ
