Shooting of Security Guard Outside Drake’s Toronto Home Under Investigation
A security guard was shot outside the residence of Drake in Toronto, Canada. Authorities were alerted around 2 a.m. local time on Tuesday. The wounded security guard was transported to the hospital in serious condition, according to Inspector Paul Krawczyk of the Toronto Police, who spoke at a press conference.
The security guard was stationed outside the gate when he was shot. While Krawczyk did not confirm if Drake was present at the residence during the incident, he did state that the police are in contact with the rapper’s team, who are cooperating with the investigation. Read more here.
No suspects have been apprehended yet, but Krawczyk mentioned there were multiple individuals involved who fled the scene in a vehicle. Investigators are currently reviewing video footage to identify the perpetrators.
When questioned if this attack could be linked to Drake and Kendrick Lamar’s recent rivalry, Krawczyk clarified that no motive has been established at this point. The feud between the two artists has recently escalated, with each releasing some of the most inflammatory diss tracks ever, igniting online discussions among their fans.
Drake’s representatives declined to comment when reached by CNN, and representatives for Lamar were unavailable.
Drake remains one of the world’s best-selling artists, having won five Grammy Awards and being recognized by the Recording Industry Association of America last year for surpassing 200 million units in sales. Despite the unsettling incident, authorities are focused on the investigation, and further updates are anticipated as new information surfaces.
