Daylight Saving Time, How To Prepare

Spring Forward…

It’s something we all hate doing, but it happens each year. The bad news is that we spring forward one hour Sunday at 2:00 am. The good news is that it will be lighter in the evenings now.

The time change could, and most likely will, mess with your body. You’re susceptible to a higher risk of heart attack and stroke, not to mention the new sleeping troubles. Sleep patterns can be affected for 5 to 7 days after the time change.

The trick to beat daylight saving time is to start moving your internal clock ahead now before it happens on Sunday. Here are a few tips to help:

  1. Be sure to adjust your bedtime and wake up time. Train your body slowly to get used to the new time change by going to bed 5-10 minutes each night before the switch.
  2. Don’t sleep in Sunday morning, if you’re extremely tired be sure to take a 20-minute nap, but no more than that.
  3. Enjoy the extra sunlight and exercise to help your body adjust.
  4. Resist that extra cup of coffee.

Do you have tips that help you each daylight saving time?
